What Is Codex?

Codex is an open-source local coding agent from OpenAI that runs in your terminal. It is not simply a code-completion tool, but a true coding agent—you only need to describe the functionality you want in natural language, and Codex can understand the entire codebase, edit code across files, run commands in a sandbox, debug issues, and iterate until the task is complete.

Ace Data Cloud provides a low-cost OpenAI Responses-compatible proxy, allowing you to use Codex at less than half the official price. No fixed monthly subscription is required; pay by Token usage, with ample quotas, global availability, and ready-to-use setup after a single configuration.

Codex's Core Capabilities

More than just code completion—it is an agent that can understand, edit, execute, and deliver code

📦

Codebase Understanding

Automatically analyzes project structure and dependencies, with no need to manually select context files. Just say "Explain this project's directory structure" to get a complete architectural overview.

✏️

Multi-File Editing

Performs precise edits across multiple files, rather than merely offering suggestions. Codex understands the relationships between code to ensure the correctness and consistency of changes.

🐛

Debugging and Fixes

Describe a bug or paste an error message, and Codex will identify the root cause and implement a fix. It can read logs, run tests, and iterate until the issue is resolved.

⌨️

Command Execution

Runs Shell commands, tests, installs dependencies, and checks Git status in a controlled sandbox, enabling the Agent to truly complete end-to-end development tasks hands-on.

🔌

MCP Tool Integration

Supports the Model Context Protocol and can connect to AceData Cloud MCP tools such as Suno, Midjourney, and SERP, expanding Codex's capabilities.

🧠

Adjustable Reasoning Effort

Use model_reasoning_effort to switch between low / medium / high, allowing the model to think deeply and provide well-considered solutions when facing complex architectural decisions.

~/.codex/config.toml
model_provider = "acedatacloud"
[model_providers.acedatacloud]
name = "acedatacloud"
base_url = "https://api.acedata.cloud/v1"
[model_providers.acedatacloud.auth]
command = "sh"
args = ["-c", "echo $ACEDATACLOUD_API_KEY"]

Complete setup in 3 minutes

Simply declare a custom Provider in the Codex configuration to connect Codex to AceData Cloud.

1

Get an API Token

Copy the API Key from the Ace Data Cloud app list and save it to the ACEDATACLOUD_API_KEY environment variable

2

Configure config.toml

Declare model_provider in ~/.codex/config.toml to point to the AceData Cloud proxy

3

Start coding

Run the codex command to enjoy full functionality at a lower cost

What can Codex do?

From everyday coding to large-scale refactoring—covering the entire software development lifecycle

🚀

Feature Development

Describe your requirements in natural language, and Codex automatically generates complete feature implementation code

🔧

Bug Fixes

Paste error logs or describe the issue to automatically identify the root cause and complete the fix

👀

Code Review

Review code quality, security risks, and potential bugs, with recommendations for improvement

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about using Codex through AceData Cloud

What is the relationship between Codex and the OpenAI API? ▾

Codex is an open-source command-line programming Agent launched by OpenAI. It communicates with models through the OpenAI Responses API under the hood. AceData Cloud provides an OpenAI Responses-compatible proxy service. Codex can use our service by configuring a custom model_provider in ~/.codex/config.toml, with functionality fully identical to the official version.

What are the advantages of using it through AceData Cloud? ▾

Three major advantages: (1) Lower prices—charged based on Token usage, at less than half the official price, with no fixed monthly fee; (2) Ample quota—you will not encounter quota limit prompts as with official subscriptions, and there is no throttling even with frequent use; (3) Available globally—no matter which region you are in, you can use it reliably with low latency.

Which models are supported? ▾

Multiple models suitable for programming tasks are supported. The integration configuration does not require a fixed model; after starting Codex, you can use /model to view and switch among currently available models.

How do I configure Codex to use AceData Cloud? ▾

Declare model_provider = "acedatacloud" in ~/.codex/config.toml, set base_url = "https://api.acedata.cloud/v1", and use the provider's auth command to read ACEDATACLOUD_API_KEY. For detailed steps, please see the configuration tutorial.

Which platforms are supported? ▾

Coding Plan currently provides a Codex CLI configuration entry point, connecting to the OpenAI Responses-compatible interface through model_provider.

How can I verify that the configuration is working? ▾

After completing the configuration, run codex to enter the interactive interface, then type /model to check whether the current model and Provider are from acedatacloud. You can also view API call records and usage statistics in the Ace Data Cloud console to confirm that requests have been sent through the proxy.

Can it be used worldwide? ▾

Yes. AceData Cloud provides globally available access nodes, so no matter where you are, you can use Codex reliably with low latency. No VPN or overseas credit card is required—just sign up and start using it.
